MV January 2021

Some residents of Meadow Vale have asked how they can help others with needs during the continuation of the coronavirus pandemic.

Eastern Area Community Ministries, which serves people living east of the Watterson Expressway and north of Interstate 64, perpetually has a need for help in stocking the pantry. Of special need is non-food items such as laundry detergent and toilet paper. These are their two, top-requested items. Cereal and hearty soups are much appreciated as well, according to EACM's executive director, Rev. Carrie Gerard. At the same time, she says they always have plenty of peanut butter, canned vegetables, and tuna.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. When you arrive at their location, 9104 Westport Road, please call 502-426-2824, ext. 312 and someone will come out to receive the donation.

MV Mayor Note
Happy New Year!

As we close 2020 … it has been a year of change as well as one of reflection. We have had several once in a lifetime events to add to our life experiences. A pandemic, two blue moons (with one being on Halloween), and the “Great Conjunction” of Jupiter and Saturn, also known as the “Christmas Star,” have presented us with a note-worthy twelve months.

The pandemic has meant spending more time separated from face-to-face contact with others while providing time to reflect on the values we hold that are truly important. Covid-19 has made Zoom, WiFi, virtual school, Instacart, and telemedicine parts of everyday life. It has had an impact. The impact on how we do things for 2021 remains to be seen.

I am confident we will ring in 2021 stronger and more resilient than when we left 2019. We, as Americans, have a history of facing whatever is sent our way with an outlook of how to make things better while overcoming obstacles.

As a City we have made many strides this year. We have remained functional while meeting challenges. So, stay tuned, there is more to come in 2021.

I would like to recognize our police department for receiving accreditation from Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police. This is a significant milestone for our officers who have worked hard and diligently to achieve this high honor. This will elevate our department and assist in making the City eligible for federal grants that, otherwise, would have been out of reach. This prestigious distinction is important to all of Meadow Vale. Thank you.

I would like to thank our many volunteers who keep the berm clean and free of waste. They are truly a special group of residents who give tirelessly to allow us to keep our wonderful neighborhood looking great.

With Heartfelt Gratitude,

~ Mayor Hornek
